Most people camp for one, or possibly two, nights.This is because most sites are occupied every single night and they want to allow the previous occupants’ time to enjoy the site and break down camp before the next group arrives. You can’t pick up your permit any earlier than when the Visitor Center opens, e.g. Permits must be picked up at the Bear Valley Visitor Center.Permit requirements often change from year to year so check the website for current information. You can also check any time to see if sites have opened up due to cancellations. Midweek spots are sometimes available even at short notice, especially at Glen Camp. Advance reservation sites are released at 7 am PT while same day sites are released online at 9:30 am PT. A portion of the sites are released 14 days in advance. These sites are all very popular so mark your calendar for three months to the date before you want to camp, especially on weekends for advance reservations. Starting from the campsite, this made a 7-mile loop. The Baldy Trail brings you back to the Bear Valley Trail at the junction where you can pick up the Glen Camp Loop Trail to return to the campsite. Sky and Baldy have quite a bit more elevation gain than the Bear Valley Trail and are significantly overgrown in spots, but it’s a nice, moderately strenuous hike. We then turned right onto the Baldy Trail for 1.1 miles.

Sky Trail Loop: On the return from Kelham Beach, we made a loop by turning left from the Coast Trail onto the Sky Trail for 1.5 miles.
